Matt is a USCF National Master and part-time chess coach. He started playing chess when at five and has been teaching since age nine. Matt’s two goals when working with students are to 1) make sure the game stays fun and 2) ensure constant improvement in all facets of the game.
Chess should be fun! The amount of time spent in lessons is small compared to how much time a student spends practicing outside of lessons when they truly enjoy the game. Matt believes it’s most important for students to start with endgames, tactics and basic opening principles. From there Matt will start to include positional ideas and strategies for middlegame improvement. Once students are rated over 1400 they start to develop faster in some areas than others and Matt helps them identify strengths/weaknesses. See the reviews section of the site to see what students think about their lessons.
