Learn how to play chess from Wikipedia. After you have learned how to move the pieces, it will be important to learn a few essentials before you start practicing.
Basic Endgame Checkmates
The only ways to checkmate with 2 pieces vs. 1 are 1) King and Queen vs. King, 2) King and Rook vs. King, and 3) King and Pawn vs. King [since the pawn can promote to a queen or rook]. Once you can mate with a Queen or a Rook, you should be able to mate with other pieces in addition to a Queen or a Rook. There are a couple 2 piece checkmates that are worth learning, and those are 1) King and 2 Bishops vs. King, and 2) King, Bishop, and Knight vs. King. These last 2 scenarios are rare, so if you can’t master them yet don’t worry.
